Removal of the Deceased
Removal of the deceased from either Hospital, Private Residence or
Public Mortuary in London. This is usually conducted during normal
working hours (in order to contain our clients costs). Additional
mileage is charged should we be asked to remove the deceased from
outside London. (Mileage is charged at £1.20p per mile).
The Coffin
The coffin used will be zinc lined to meet with airline and embassy
regulations, satin and flannelette side sheets and a viewing panel,
2 pairs of handles, engraved plate of inscription with RIP
and Crucifix (if appropriate).
Necessary vehicles
Other than the vehicle used for the removal of the deceased,
vehicles are also necessary for collecting documentation from the
doctor who looked after the deceased during their last illness or
Pathologist and the Coroner. Vehicles may also be required to take
documents to be Notarised at a Notary and or legalised at the
Foreign Office or Embassy.
Bearers and conveyance will also be required to take the deceased to
London Heathrow Airport.
Professional services
This includes the bearers for the removal of the deceased. Washing,
embalming* and dressing in an appropriate gown or the deceased’s own
clothes, care of the deceased in a dignified manner whilst in our
charge. Making all necessary repatriation arrangements with the
family, embassy and airline. Collation and preparation of all the
necessary statutory documentation from Doctor’s, the Coroner and
Embassy. Settlement of all the necessary fees on behalf of our
client. Collecting and returning Embassy, High Commission or
Consular officials.
Receiving and attending to all necessary telephone calls home and
overseas and providing a 24 hour telephone service for assistance
and support for our client throughout the repatriation arrangements.
* Under new guidelines, embalming staff must be given every
opportunity to take precautions when coming into contact with a
deceased person who has or may have an infection. You must advise us
at the time if the deceased has or you are aware that there maybe an
infection. We will then be able to talk and discuss all the options
open to you and any additional costs that maybe incurred.
